I wore the keyboard out again.
The plastic case of the laptop was never quite right after replacing just the keyboard, it started cracking and the bottom was falling out every time I picked it up. Yet another laptop bites the dust.
It’s always the keyboard for me.
This time it was only the color worn away and the keys were still functional. Before that I had broken the space bar and the letter S. The time before that it was the letter O that no longer functioned.
On average, I go through a laptop every 2 years. We’ve learned its not cost effective to replace the keyboard which sucks. It absolutely sucks because I have to start all over again on a new device and get all the settings the way I want.
And it’s not like I need anything super powerful, I write and play 30yr old castle builder games.
My biggest issue this time around was all the AI crap.
I don’t like AI. I don’t use AI in any capacity. It destroys the planet and predictive text throws the emperor’s groove all the way off.
Imagine you’re trying to have a conversation with someone when the person just randomly inserts two words of what they predict you’re going to say before you can say it. I have assaulted people for less.
It annoys me to no end that this whole dell machine has AI built in. There’s even a Copilot key on my laptop. So it’s not just enough to disable Copilot, I have to entirely eradicate it from Word processor and that takes ten whole minutes of my life that I’ll never get back, every freaking time I have to get a new laptop because computer companies don’t sell reasonably priced keyboards.
Consider me entirely derailed for the next month.
It also doesn’t help that this time my technical training wheels were taken off. I normally don’t have to buy the laptop, my husband (IT guy) buys one for me. Over the years I’ve gotten much better about doing this myself, burning through seven or eight laptops will do that to you, but I didn’t get the model with the full keyboard.
Of all the things to forget, the full keyboard might be the worst?
That means I can’t figure out where my fingers go. I am distressed.
All of this to say, that yesterday I was trying to write down my experience with a psychic doing my best impression of a T-Rex typing on a tiny keyboard, meanwhile Copilot is trying to predict words but there’s no predicts this, so it’s randomly adding words to the page while I’m trying to remember specific details. Not Helpful.
And while I’m complaining about AI: Why is it that a column writer from The Atlantic of all places gets to destroy a writer’s career by accusing them of AI while using AI to supposedly prove it?
You guys do know you can’t use AI to determine if AI was used right?
Regardless if it’s known or not, once again we see white, privileged ignorance destroy only Black authors. There’s quite literally a white male author who wrote an entire book using AI openly and it sold for a ton of money whereas Black authors are losing their book deals because someone pointed a finger.
This is stupid. Unless you’re an expert in AI technology and it’s use, don’t point fingers and don’t indulge people who do.
This bubble pop can’t come soon enough.
